Movie: Perfume, The Story of A Murderer

This movie is another hidden gem that somehow escaped the theaters unnoticed. Based off the novel by author Patrick Suskind, Perfume takes movies into a new dimension, a more artistic dimension. the director, Tom Tykwer, did a good job in indulging our sense of smell in the movie which makes it a rewarding experience. the lighting, cinematography and the soundtrack accompanied by a compelling story really makes this movie an oasis amongst the all so familiar blockbusters. this movie reminds us that film is indeed a form of art, and you’ll have to appreciate its creativity.

this movie revolves around Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) who was born with an exception gift of smell. he was content with his life no matter the circumstance, just as long as he kept his olfactory curiosity satisfied with new scents. but once he got the whiff of a particular virgin, he became absorbed and overwhelmed. after accidentically killing the virgin, he was very much displeased to find out that her scent died with her. he became so obessessed with this new and most invigorating scent that he made it his duty to find a way to preserve scent. after finding a questionable means of preserving the scents of virgins, he ends up making the best perfume in human history.

Entertaining: A

Slowing Down: Random Thoughts

Sometimes, you’d be amazed about the amount of things you miss while racing through the chaotic frenzy that is life. At every single moment we’re occupied with either one thing or the other, be it school, work, money, friends or family. and we’re constantly fighting for our next wants while others fight for their needs. its our nature to grow as human beings, and we all do our growing in different ways, to achieve different things. once we conquer one thing, its time for the next. and i realized that people really aren’t different in that aspect. we are all striving to conquer something, and most of the time it isn’t a huge goal like making a company, and most of the time it is as simple as touching a life, being known, overcoming a fear, completing a challenge or even making a friend. and many times we may not know what we want and we may end up chasing the wrong things in life, which may lead to a sense of emptiness or being trapped.

i believe every human being is different, we all have our different priorities and goals that are unique to each of us. just like we all have our preferred tastes, colors, music, etc. and then we have the goals and expectations imposed to us by society. sometimes ur priorities go against what is expected of you, and then u’re forced to pick between individuality and social acceptance. how much are we to conform to society and how much should we fight for our individuality? many decisions arise and i see myself leaning more and more towards individuality and indeed this is the harder and lonelier path. there’s too much to explain here, but don’t read this as is, just know its a bit more complicated than u may think. my thought process is incompatible with myself….lol twisted. the path of individuality in my eyes removes all faults from people and respects each and everyone for the things that make them who we are, be it good, or “termed” bad. we fight for equality in different aspects of life, but why don’t we strive to make equality a universal goal rather than selectively pick the things we wish to be equal. i dunno, but this might just be my environment. we sometimes have no idea how our environment might affect the people we finally become. and trying to go against the grain in a society just leads to more problems. it’s really hard to be the person you want to be when you know u’ll be alone and will most likely be discouraged, again really hard to explain….i’m writing all this down like i was talkin to myself, there’s a lot of things going thru my mind and it will be hard to let u know where i’m comin from and there’s prolly no way of understanding, but just felt like writing it down anyway
