Ok Running with Scissors isnt a very popular movie and it seemed to have gone under the radar. it really isn’t your typical blockbuster or even the typical compilation of cliches that constitutes the usual comedy or tragedy. this movie is “supposed” to be a comedy (some of the humor is questionable), but it has a general tragic feel to it.

It is based off the memoirs of Augusten Burroughs. a gay quiet kid who becomes adopted by Dr. Finch(Brian Cox) a wacky psychiatrist and is made to live with family who makes the Addam’s family look like the Osbourne’s. we have the older sister (Gynwyneth Paltrow), who uses the bible like a magic eight ball and talks to her cat, the younger adopted daughter who dated a 40 yr old at the age of 13, a gay schizophrenic 30 yr old, who wants to be adopted, a quiet disturbed mother who snacks on dog food. And then we have Augusten’s mother (Annette Bening), who is an aspiring writer/poet and slowly becomes delusional and feels trapped in her world. She then becomes a lesbian and neglects her son while getting high on prescription pills. We follow Augusten as he struggles with his parents divorce, through adoption, through the realization of his mother delusional mental state and through finding meaning in his confused world. it is a touching story that’s more eccentric than Courtney Love.

Overall: B-

its a movie worth seeing, if you’re lookin for something different. You’ll need to be patient with the movie and a little open-minded to appreciate it.

it dwells on the past,
waiting for its present trigger
and the future calm

 

the last rain drop falls
the beast awakens
surpassing expectations
with a hunger for destruction
a ticking bomb of hostile emotion

 

it attacks without remorse
with the element of surprise
never discriminating
never wavering
forever focus

 

with an eruption of fury
channeled towards its target
dedicated to its attack
it has no other motives
but burnout its energy on you…

for it resides within the unlikely home
